The President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Engr. Habu Ahmed Gumel, is set to bankroll and lead the 2025 edition of the Olympic Walk, a major highlight of the annual Nigeria Engineering Games, scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 12, 2025, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
In a briefing with newsmen, Gumel expressed high hopes for a strong turnout, calling on Nigerians of all ages to participate in the event which promotes fitness, unity, and healthy living.
“I would like to see not less than 250 people at this year’s event,” Gumel said. “I expect people of all ages to come, have fun, and use the walk to keep fit.”
This year’s walk is particularly notable as it will, for the first time, feature the Chairman and Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko and Bukola Olapade, who will join Gumel in leading the walk.
Engr. Gumel, who is also a former President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), emphasized that the Olympic Walk is more than just a sporting activity—it is a public call to adopt a healthier lifestyle.
“We want to use this platform to encourage Nigerians to prioritize fitness. Walking is simple, inclusive, and impactful,” he said.
Participants are expected to gather for the flag-off at 8:00 a.m. at the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Headquarters, located off Labour House Road/National Mosque Road, Central Business District, Abuja.
As anticipation builds, the 2025 Olympic Walk is shaping up to be one of the most vibrant public fitness events in the FCT calendar—blending engineering excellence, sporting spirit, and national pride.
