WAFCON 2024: Okunwa-Igunbor Believes Super Falcons Will Go All Out Against Botswana

Nigeria’s female national team, Super Falcons’ former striker, Gift Okunwa-Igunbor, has shot a look ahead of the squad’s second group game at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco and declared that the players will go all out against Botswana.

Sports247 reports that, though Okunwa-Igunbor is not with the Falcons at the competition, where they play their group matches in Casablanca, the gangling ex-international believes the presence of many attackers in the squad makes them very strong upfront.

She further pointed out that the Falcons were able to trounce Tunisia 3-0 in their opening group match on Sunday because of the presence of many options in attack and, though the former striker acknowledged that they lost several scoring chances, she blamed it all on anxiety.

Okunwa-Igunbor added, “They should have scored at least eight goals, but all of them were just too eager to score. All the sane, we have many strikers in that team, and that’s why Tunisia was no match for us.

“In their next match, they should do it the same way they played against Tunisia. They don’t have to rush, and they just have to take one match at a time.”

While admitting that other countries are also in the competition with the aim of winning the trophy and preventing Nigeria from dominating the race, Okunwa-Igunbor opined that none of the other teams can stop Coach Justin Madugu’s side.

“They’ve played only one game so far. Now they are going in for the second match, and I believe they will go all out.

“It’s winning we want, but we know that every country has come of age. Everybody wants to make sure they beat Nigeria, but it’s not going to be easy for them,” Okunwa-Igunbor predicted.
