Former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has voiced his skepticism about Victor Osimhen’s ability to succeed in the English Premier League, despite the Nigerian forward being one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe.
Speaking during a media appearance, the Dutch football legend expressed concerns that Osimhen might struggle to find his rhythm in the demanding nature of English football.
Hasselbaink pointed out that although Osimhen has proven himself in Serie A with Napoli, the Premier League presents a different kind of challenge, especially for strikers who rely on space and service.
“I’m not convinced that he would get as many chances in the Premier League as he does in Italy,” he said. “In other leagues, particularly where play is more open and tactical, he could continue to thrive, but England is a different story.”
Victor Osimhen has been consistently linked with a move to top English clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United, and Arsenal following his stellar goal-scoring form in Italy. The 25-year-old helped Napoli win the Serie A title in the 2022/2023 season and has since been in the spotlight as one of the hottest attacking talents in Europe.
Hasselbaink, who knows the demands of English football well, emphasized that the transition to the Premier League could be tough for a striker like Osimhen, unless he is in a team that creates ample chances. “He’s a quality striker, no doubt,” Hasselbaink added. “But I wouldn’t be 100% sure he would hit the ground running in England.”
As speculation continues over Osimhen’s next move, fans and pundits will watch closely to see whether the Super Eagles star takes the leap to the Premier League — and if he can prove doubters wrong on the biggest domestic stage in football.
