Nigerian centre-back Akintunde Ahmed delivered a commanding performance as ASN Nigelec defeated AS Douanes 1–0 in the final of the Niger Republic FA Cup (Coupe Nationale) on Sunday, securing the club’s qualification for the 2025–26 CAF Confederation Cup.
Ahmed was rock solid in defence, playing a key role in ASN Nigelec’s clean sheet. His composure, timely tackles, and aerial strength neutralized AS Douanes’ attacking threats in a closely fought encounter at the Tahoua Regional Stadium.

The win marks ASN Nigelec’s second national cup title, their first since 2013. The team had earlier booked their spot in the final by defeating AS FAN 5–1 on aggregate in the semi-finals, while AS Douanes overcame USGN.
The victory ensures ASN Nigelec will represent Niger in continental competition next season, entering the CAF Confederation Cup. Club officials and players received medals and the trophy from Niger’s Minister of Youth and Sports at the post-match ceremony.
Ahmed’s standout display has sparked attention from football observers, with many tipping the young defender for greater opportunities in African and international football.
