Tenerife of Spain female team attacker, Rinsola Babajide has described her inclusion in Nigeria’s squad for this year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON 2025) as a big privilege and something of honour, Sports247 reports.

Incidentally, this is her first time of appearing at any edition of WAFCON, as it was only two years ago that she switched allegiance from England to play for Nigeria.

Having been a part of England’s junior team that won bronze at the 2018 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in France, expectations were rife that the former Liverpool striker would opt for the country of her birth at senior level, but she suddeny decided to switch to her parents’ nation, Nigeria.

With five Nigeria caps now to her name, including her Super Falcons debut versus Ethiopia on October 25, 2023 in an Olympic Games qualifier, Rinsola admits she still has a long way to go with the squad, but added that she is already relishing the team’s camp atmosphere.

She disclosed, “It’s a very honourable feeling, and I’m so privileged to be here. Whenever I’m able to put the badge on, I just feel honoured. That’s the first thing that comes to my mind.”

The dark-skinned attacker then disclosed her targets with the Nigerian squad and declared emphatically that she is happy to see that all her teammates have the same vision of achieving great things with the Falcons.

Rinsola affirmed: “I want to contribute as much as I can for the team and work hard towards good results. I feel happy among every one of them, and we are working together to take the team far.”
