Atalanta Sign 17-Year-Old Nigerian Descent Defender Honest Ahanor from Genoa in €20M Deal

Atalanta have officially completed the signing of 17-year-old Nigerian descent defender Honest Ovonramwen Ahanor from Genoa in a deal worth €15 million plus €5 million in performance-related bonuses, on a contract running until June 2028 with an option to extend to 2030.

Born in Aversa, Italy, to Nigerian parents from Edo State, Ahanor made headlines on September 28, 2024, when he became the first player born in 2008 to play in the Italian Serie A, making his debut for Genoa against Juventus at just 16 years old.

During the 2024/2025 season, he made six league appearances and scored his first professional goal in a 2-2 away draw against Napoli.

Although yet to represent Italy at any youth level, Ahanor remains eligible to play for Nigeria and now joins a squad that includes Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman.

He is Atalanta’s third signing of the summer, and the club views him as a key addition to their long-term defensive plans.
