In response to the tragic news, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, Hon. Adeboye Anthony Adeyinka, released a heartfelt tribute on behalf of the Presidency.

Rufai’s storied career spanned over two decades, during which he made 65 appearances for Nigeria—commonly known as the Super Eagles. He was a key figure in Nigeria’s 1994 Africa Cup of Nations victory and represented the nation in the 1994 and 1998 FIFA World Cups .
