What started as a lifeline out of poverty for Adeola Ajayi has now become a mission of hope and impact for his hometown.
Ajayi, a native of Sango Ota who found an escape from hardship through basketball in 2009, is now giving back to the community that shaped him — one child, one basketball, and one water well at a time.

In 2019, Ajayi established the Adeola Ajayi Foundation with the support of his employers at a luxury apartment building in Kansas City, USA, as well as donations from local businesses and well-meaning individuals.
Since its inception, the foundation has become a beacon of opportunity for underprivileged youth in Sango Ota.
Every year, Ajayi returns to Nigeria to host a free basketball camp in his hometown, targeting children facing similar economic challenges to those he once endured.
The camp, which started with a modest turnout, now serves over 200 children annually and provides not just sports training, but also essential supplies.
Thanks to increasing support, the foundation has expanded its impact beyond basketball. It recently constructed a community basketball court, drilled two water wells, and distributed food, clean drinking water, footwear, and personal hygiene products to hundreds of local beneficiaries.
Speaking on the initiative, Ajayi said his goal is to continue empowering the youth through sport and community development.
“Basketball changed my life. I want to use it as a tool to open doors for others who are growing up in the same environment I came from,” he said.
As the foundation’s influence continues to grow, residents in Sango Ota are celebrating Ajayi not just as a hometown hero, but as a symbol of hope for what is possible when talent is combined with purpose.
