Nigerian striker Lawal Taiwo has completed a move to Mazatlán Fútbol Club Femenil, strengthening the club’s forward line ahead of the Liga MX Femenil Apertura 2025 season.
Taiwo joins from Turkish side Ünye Gücü FK, where she made a strong impression with her goal-scoring prowess in the Turkish Women’s Super League. Before that, she played for Ataşehir Belediyespor, contributing 10 goals in 22 matches during the 2023–2024 campaign.

Her consistent performances in Europe have attracted attention from clubs across different continents, and Mazatlán has now secured her services in what is considered a major attacking reinforcement.
Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Taiwo has played for several clubs, including Nigeria’s Robo Queens, before making her move abroad. She has featured in Nigeria’s youth national teams, including the U-20 squad, and has trained with the senior national team.
Known for her speed, sharp movement off the ball, and clinical finishing, she is expected to bring energy and creativity to Mazatlán’s front line.
The signing aligns with Mazatlán’s strategic focus on international talent to boost competitiveness. Club officials describe Taiwo as a player with “natural scoring instincts” and believe she will make an immediate impact once integrated into the squad.
Taiwo is expected to report to preseason training this week as the club prepares for its opening fixture in July. Her arrival has been well-received by fans who are hopeful she will help lead the Cañoneras to a playoff push in the upcoming tournament.
