Felix Agu Eyes AFCON Triumph and 2026 World Cup Qualification With Nigeria

Super Eagles defender Felix Agu has declared his ambition to win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with Nigeria and help the country secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

The 25-year-old Werder Bremen star, who recently committed his international future to Nigeria, made his debut for the national team during the 2025 Unity Cup and has already set clear targets for his role in the team.

Speaking after Nigeria’s Unity Cup success in London, Agu expressed his determination to make a meaningful impact on the team.

“We have to win the Africa Cup of Nations. That is the target, and also we must qualify for the 2026 World Cup. The team has the quality, but we must avoid costly mistakes,” Agu stated.

Despite only joining the Super Eagles squad this summer, Agu’s performances have impressed both fans and coaching staff. Known for his composure, versatility, and defensive strength, the left-back has already established himself as a potential first-choice option in Eric Chelle’s squad.

The Super Eagles are seeking redemption following their disappointing final outing at the last AFCON in Ivory Coast. Nigeria is also aiming to return to the World Cup after failing to qualify for the 2022 edition in Qatar. Agu believes that renewed focus, discipline, and a winning mentality will be vital for success in upcoming qualifiers.

“The past is behind us,” he said. “Now we look forward. I want to give everything to help the team succeed. Representing Nigeria is a big honour, and I’m ready to play my part.”

With the 2025 AFCON scheduled to be held in Morocco, all eyes will be on Nigeria’s preparations as they aim to reclaim continental glory and return to the global football stage in 2026.
