In a remarkable feat of endurance, creativity, and determination, Nigerian professional hairdresser Joshua Aiyenuro Babatunde, popularly known as Tjosh, has set a new world record for the longest professional hairdressing marathon, completing the challenge at the velodrome of the Abuja National Stadium on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has officially congratulated Tjosh for the achievement, with Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko and Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade among dignitaries who visited him during the marathon to show support.

“This is another example of the true spirit of the Nigerian youth,” said Dikko. “It’s no surprise this feat came from a young Nigerian, because our youths are among the most resilient and hardworking in the world. I congratulate him for once again putting Nigeria on the global map as a pacesetter in the creative industry.”

Director General Olopade, known for his strong advocacy for youth empowerment, hailed the achievement as a symbol of Nigerian innovation and ambition.

“When Tjosh visited my office to share his dream, I saw a young man determined to chart his own course to greatness,” Olopade said. “That’s why we approved the use of the velodrome for his attempt. Today, we are proud to witness history being made.”

Tjosh’s achievement not only breaks records but also inspires a new wave of confidence among Nigerian youth in the potential of non-traditional careers and the broader creative industry. His dedication and discipline throughout the marathon have been widely praised as a model of perseverance.

The NSC’s endorsement of the feat aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes youth capacity building and economic empowerment.

With his name now etched in history, Tjosh joins the ranks of Nigerians pushing boundaries on the global stage—not on the track or field—but in the salon chair.
