Calvin Bassey has been voted Fulham’s Player of the Season, becoming the first African player to win the prestigious fan-voted award at the club.
The Nigerian center-back received nearly 40% of the total vote, edging out teammate Alex Iwobi who came in second with just over 21%.

Calvin Bassey, 24, expressed his gratitude in a heartfelt message to fans, coaches, and teammates.
“I just want to say thank you to everyone who voted for me,” Bassey said. “It means the world to be appreciated this way. I want to thank God, my personal team, the coaching staff, and the fans who support us every week.”
Signed from Ajax in 2023, Bassey had a breakout season in the Premier League, making 35 appearances, contributing to five clean sheets, and earning praise for his consistent performances and leadership on the pitch.
His physical presence, defensive awareness, and passing range have made him a key figure in Marco Silva’s Fulham side.
Fulham finished comfortably in mid-table, and Bassey was instrumental in the club’s strong home form and defensive stability.
The award also signals a shift in perception for Bassey, who had faced criticism during his early spell in the Eredivisie. His Premier League campaign has silenced doubters and elevated his reputation across Europe.
Looking ahead, Bassey said he is hungry for more success next season. “This is just the beginning. I want to do incredible things with this club, and I know we have the talent and belief to make it happen.”
The accolade marks a significant milestone not just for Bassey, but for African representation in the Premier League. He now joins a select group of African stars who have left their mark on English football.
