Eseigbe Hails “Fearless” Female Yellow Greens After Stunning Win Over Uganda

Captain of Nigeria’s Female Yellow Greens, Favour Eseigbe, has praised her team’s spirit and adaptability following a dramatic 5-wicket victory over Uganda—the top-ranked side in the ongoing Kwibuka 31 tournament in Kigali, Rwanda.

The comeback win has injected fresh momentum into the squad’s campaign as they await confirmation of their semi-final qualification. Speaking after the game, Eseigbe revealed that the team had gone in with a mindset of nothing to lose, which freed them to play with boldness and grit.

“We are very excited and the girls are very, very excited right now because this will give us a good momentum to go into other games, especially the semis,” she said. “At that point, we knew we had nothing to lose—he that is down fears no fall. So we just wanted to fight. If it came our way, we were going to take it, but if not, we were still ready to go home and learn from our mistakes.”

The victory wasn’t a result of luck, she emphasized, but the outcome of a deliberate and flexible game strategy that included a rotating batting order designed to keep opponents uncertain.

“We had a different game plan, and according to that plan, anybody could open because we don’t have a fixed opener. We had already studied the Ugandan team and knew they would come prepared for some of our known batters. So this was a tactic, not a collapse.”

Eseigbe also extended heartfelt appreciation to the supporters back home and in Rwanda, who she said continue to uplift the team through their messages, encouragement, and presence.

“Without them we wouldn’t be here. We see all the love and we are grateful—we never take it for granted,” she added.

The Yellow Greens’ fearless approach and unity are now proving to be their greatest assets as they push toward a potential finals appearance.
