Nigeria’s youth national team, Flying Eagles’ captain Daniel Bameyi, has revealed the factors he believes would help the squad overcome Colombia, Saudi Arabia and Norway in Group F of this year’s FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile.
Sports247 gathered that Bameyi is already making plans on how to marshall the squad through the group stage and into the knock-out rounds of the competition, which is scheduled to run from September 27th to October 19th in the South American nation.

The Abuja-based defender reckoned that, while he and his teammates will be looking up to technical guidance from their coach, Aliyu Zubairu, the biggest task is actually on them individually and collectively.
He added that once the players develop themselves mentally, physically and in total unity, they will not only qualify from their group but also go on to achieve Nigeria’s first-ever conquest of the global youth competition.
Bameyi affirmed, “I am very positive that we can qualify for the next round of the tournament after the group stage. We have everything it takes to do it. It only depends on the level of our commitment and the seriousness that we put into our training sessions.”
The ubiquitous Flying Eagles’ leader, who earlier disclosed the inspiration he gained from former Super Eagles’ centre backs, Taribo West and Joseph Yobo, went on to acknowledge that winning the trophy in Chile will not be an easy task but insisted that this current under-20 squad can achieve it.
He added, “We have to work on ourselves individually, collectively as a team and mentally. Of course, this is the World Cup, where the best of the best will want to show what they have.
“We are also going as the third best team from Africa. So, I am very positive that we have everything it takes to achieve a lot at that tournament.”
Bameyi concluded by adding his confidence in the coaching crew led by Zubairu but stressed that all technical inputs from the crew would come to nothing if the players did not augment it with their individual talents and efforts.
“We have a good technical team that knows what to do to make us qualify. But we, the players, have a lot of work to do. We have to work on ourselves. So, I am positive that we can do well in Chile, but it all depends on our attitude,” the Flying Eagles’ skipper reiterated.
