Eseigbe Laments Missed Chances as Nigeria Fall to Brazil in Kwibuka13 Opener

Captain of Nigeria’s women’s cricket team, Favour Eseigbe, has attributed their narrow five-run defeat to Brazil in the opening match of the ongoing Kwibuka13 Women’s T20 Tournament in Kigali to early batting struggles and missed fielding opportunities.

Speaking after the match, Eseigbe said the team lost momentum early in the first innings and failed to reach their target score of 120–130 runs.

She also highlighted crucial missed run-outs and wicket chances in the field that allowed Brazil to gain the upper hand in the tightly contested encounter.

Despite the disappointment, the captain expressed optimism, noting that the team is learning from each game and will channel the lessons from this loss into better performances in their upcoming fixtures.

The Kwibuka13 tournament, which commemorates the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda, features nine teams from across the globe, including Nigeria, Brazil, Rwanda, Uganda, Zimbabwe XI, Tanzania, Sierra Leone, Cameroon, and Malawi.

Nigeria will look to bounce back strongly in their next group stage match as they aim for a semi-final spot in the tournament.
