“Yes, this is my first time in Nigeria,” he said. “I came for a visit, and my dad mentioned I could swim. That’s how I got picked to join the team.”

Originally in the country on holiday, Louis’ talent in the pool quickly became known when his father introduced him to local coaches. With little time to prepare, he took the opportunity to compete for Edo State.

Although he didn’t qualify for the finals in the 50m race, Louis isn’t discouraged.

“I came fourth, but I still have the relay coming up later. I’m looking forward to that and hoping to win a medal,” he said.

When asked about the level of competition, he smiled and admitted, “They are pretty fast.”

Despite being new to the scene, Louis says he’s enjoying every moment of the festival.

“I’m very happy. I’m taking back a lot of experience. I like that everybody has fun here. I really appreciate it.”

As he prepares for the relay, the Edo swimmer is embracing the thrill of his first Nigerian sports experience, hoping it ends with a medal and many memories.
