Nottingham Forest of England striker Taiwo Awoniyi has revealed the latest update in his recovery from a recent stomach operation and coma following an injury he copped in action for his club.
Sports247 reports that Awoniyi had to get surgery and an induced coma after mistakenly slamming his body into a goalpost during his club’s 2-2 draw with Leicester City over the penultimate weekend; and he missed his side’s victory away to West Ham United this past Saturday.

In his absence, Awoniyi’s teammates spread his squad jersey excitedly to celebrate their goals during the encounter in London, after which their coach, Nuno Espirito Santo, went on to dedicate the win to the Super Eagles’ star while also enthusing that the injury-prone attacker will soon be back with the team.
However, in a video that went viral on Thursday night, Awoniyi disclosed during a highly personal and cordial telephone chat with former senate president, Abubakar Bukola Saraki that he is still recuperating in hospital.
“I’m much better, but I’m still at the hospital, and I’m not at home yet. I’ve been missing your call for some time. Thank you so much, sir,” Awoniyi said in response to Senator Saraki’s sympathetic inquiries.
Dr Bukola Saraki wrote on his IG page after the call “Just got off the phone with Taiwo Awoniyi. Great to hear that he’s in good spirits and recovering well. Wishing him a quick recovery — and I hope to see him back on the pitch soon.”
