With Nigeria gearing up to host the rest of the continent in July for the 14th African Armwrestling Championship in Abuja, the President of the Nigeria Armwrestling Federation (NAWF), Engr. Samuel Jackson, has set his sights on an even bigger stage—the World Armwrestling Championship.
In a moment charged with vision and ambition, Jackson revealed that while preparations for hosting Africa’s finest armwrestlers are in top gear, the ultimate dream is to bring the world to Nigeria.

“We’ve hosted Africa before, and we’re ready to do it again with excellence in 2025,” Jackson said. “But after this, we are not stopping.
We want to host the World Armwrestling Championship. That is the next frontier, and the vision is already in motion.”
Nigeria, which is preparing to host the African Championship for the third time, is set to welcome over 20 countries to the nation’s capital, Abuja, this July.
The event promises to be a spectacle of strength, unity, and African sporting pride. Yet, for Jackson and his team, it is more than a competition—it is a statement of capability and intent.
“We believe Nigeria has what it takes—facilities, people, passion and leadership—to host the world,” Jackson emphasized. “And this African Championship will be the launchpad.”
The President’s declaration comes on the heels of several strategic partnerships secured by the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), led by Hon. Adeboye Adeyinka, SSA to the President on Grassroots Sports Development.
From government support to military backing, the LOC has been laying the groundwork to deliver a championship that sets a new standard.
The announcement also follows key meetings with institutions like the Nigerian Navy, where discussions about long-term support and integration of armwrestling into national games further solidify the sport’s upward trajectory.
As excitement builds ahead of the July competition, another milestone is on the horizon—the Mascot Unveiling and Fundraising Night, scheduled for June 14, which is expected to draw corporate sponsors, stakeholders, and dignitaries in support of the championship.
For Samuel Jackson, the African Championship is more than an event—it’s a promise that Nigeria can and will rise to global prominence in the world of armwrestling.
“Africa is watching, but so is the world. And we’re ready,” Jackson concluded.
