Legendary Goalkeeper Idah Peterside Inspires Rivers Whales Teqball Team Ahead of National Sports Festival

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper and respected sports personality, Bishop Idah Peterside, paid a motivational visit to the Rivers Whales Teqball team on Tuesday, May 20th, as they intensified training for the upcoming 2025 National Sports Festival in Ogun State.

The session took place at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Elekahia, where Peterside shared words of encouragement, charging the athletes to represent Rivers State with pride and discipline.

“You carry the hopes of an entire state. Compete with heart, character, and integrity,” he urged.

Peterside, now a renowned sports analyst and pastor, emphasized the importance of good behaviour, especially for athletes pursuing long-term careers in emerging sports like Teqball.

The Rivers Whales, led by National Teqball coach Keshi Chijioke, are gearing up to face strong competition from Ondo, Edo, and Delta States. Coach Keshi expressed deep appreciation for Peterside’s visit, calling it a morale booster for the team. “Having such a Nigerian sports icon speak to us ahead of the festival has reignited our spirit,” he said.

Teqball, a fast-growing fusion of football and table tennis, will appear as a demonstration sport for only the second time at the National Sports Festival. The showcase is scheduled for May 25th and 26th.

With rising enthusiasm and star-studded support, the Rivers Whales are aiming to make a powerful statement — not just for medals, but for the future of Teqball in Nigeria.
