Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has declared that the Nigerian team’s preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations will formally begin in earnest, now they have put the qualifiers behind them.
Sports247.ng learnt that, although Rohr admitted he will need to build a core team of 23 players for the competition in Egypt, he is ready to start with a pool of 30, as he hopes to try as many as possible before picking his final squad.
The Franco-German gaffer also spoke about the possibility of getting at least three top grade international friendlies before heading to Egypt 2019 in June.
Rohr stated: “We are looking forward to playing at least three quality friendly matches after the football season ends in Europe.
“We plan to start our preparations with a pool of 30 players, from which we will cut them to 23 for the final competition.
“We will look at some new players, especially the young ones that are playing regularly with their clubs, and we will see what they can do.”
