The Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the Nigeria Football and Other Sports Supporters (NFSSG)has lauded the Flying Eagles for their dogged performance and never-say-die attitude, at the CAF U20 AFCON which secured place at the FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile.
The Flying Eagles overcame a determined Senegalese side in a tense quarterfinal encounter that ended goalless after full time and extra time to secure
a semifinal ticket at the ongoing CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt and a FIFA U20 FIFA World Cup ticket in Chile to be played later in the year

The match was decided via penalties, with Nigeria emerging victorious by 3-1 as the Flying Eagles kicked out the defending Champions out of the competition.
In a statement issued on Monday after the match, Interim President of the IMC, of NFSSG Dr. Vincent Okumagba, expressed immense pride in the team’s display of resilience and composure under pressure.
“The Flying Eagles have once again shown the true Nigerian spirit, grit, resilience, and the will to win under pressure,, a trait they must keep and maintain to keep the momentum going in the competition in order to win the competition ” Dr. Okumagba said.
“Their performance today has made the nation proud and we stand solidly behind them as they continue their campaign in Egypt and look ahead to the World Cup in Chile.”
Dr. Okumagba also extended congratulations to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), led by Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, and the Nigeria Sports Commission (NSC), headed by Sheu Dikko, for their leadership and continued support of the national teams.
“We commend the efforts of the NFF and the NSC in ensuring our youth teams are properly supported. This qualification is a testament to their dedication and strategic leadership,” he added.
The IMC reaffirmed its commitment to rallying support for all Nigerian sports teams and called on fans across the country and the diaspora to continue backing the Flying Eagles as they aim for continental glory and prepare for the global stage in Chile.
” The united force of football and other sports supporters group in the country will not relent in giving their total support to the team and all other things be equal we shall soon hit Egypt to lend our support to the team’s through our tunes and sounds”, Okumagba concluded.
The Flying Eagles have remained unbeaten in the competition and will now shift focus to winning the trophy for Nigeria to a record extending eigth times.
