Rivers Angels’ Coach Tosan Blankson Worries About Cluster Of Matches

Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt coach, Tosan Bob Blankson is celebrating another victory for his team in the Nigerian Women’s Federation Cup with abated breath, as he knows the feat put an additional hurdle in their already saturated cluster of matches over a short span of days.

Tosan Blankson side cruised into the semi-finals on Wednesday, with a 3-1 win over Remo Ladies of Ikenne via penalties, after both teams battled to a 1-1 stalemate in their quarter-final face-off in Benin City.

The match at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium came just a day before Blankson’s team were billed to commence action at the Nigerian Women Football League (NWFL) Super-6 play-offs in Ikenne, Ogun State, and the former BCC Lions of Gboko midfielder admitted that the very busy schedule is bound to adversely affect his players physically.

Nonetheless, the lanky tactician, who previously handled Delta Queens of Asaba, pledged to continue battling on, as he aims to join the heroic chain of winning coaches at the team that last emerged Super-6 winners in 2021.

Blankson declared, “Whether you like it or not, Rivers Angels is a brand already and known for winning trophies. My coming to Rivers Angels is to add up to the trophies they’ve been winning. It’s just hard work that makes a difference.”

He, however, admitted that the task of winning this year’s Super-6 contest, which will hold from May 8th to 17th, will be tougher than ever, as his side will also have to keep in mind their Federation Cup semi-final clash with Ibom Angels of Uyo.

“For this Super-6, we are ready, but the thing is that they are choking us with the FA Cup matches. That’s not too good for the players.

“We finished the league on Wednesday, played FA Cup on Saturday. We played FA Cup again on Wednesday and then travelled from there to the Super-6, where we will play five matches in six days. The schedule will tell on the players seriously,” Blankson pointed out.
