In a notice released by the Director of Sports, Nunayon Travih, on behalf of the Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, all shortlisted athletes across various disciplines have been directed to report to camp on Wednesday, 8th May 2025, by 3:00pm.

The designated venue is the Bishop Akinde Anglican Hostel in Igbo-Igunnu, where athletes are expected to settle directly and begin intensive training and coordination ahead of the national games.

This move is in line with the Lagos State Government’s ongoing efforts to ensure a strong showing at the upcoming festival.

The Sports Commission has assured that adequate provision has been made for athlete welfare, including quality accommodation, feeding, medical support, and technical equipment.

Speaking on the significance of the close camp, Travih noted, “This stage is critical in sharpening our athletes’ performance and building team spirit. Lagos is not just going to participate — we are going to make a statement.”

Observers see Lagos’ early preparations as a clear signal of the state’s ambition to top the medal table, reflecting a deeper investment in grassroots sports development and elite performance management.

The 22nd National Sports Festival, scheduled to hold in Abeokuta, Ogun State, is expected to host athletes from across Nigeria in a celebration of talent, unity, and sporting excellence. With close camp now underway, Lagos athletes are set to don their colours with pride and preparation.
