Galatasaray of Turkey striker, Victor James Osimhen has promised to give his very best in ensuring that his Istanbul-based side win the league and cup double this season, Sports247 reports.
Speculation is rife that Osimhen will be on his way out of Gala at the end of his first and only season with ‘The Red And Yellow’ squad, hence his determination to win the Turkish Super Lig and Turkish Cup before moving on.
Conquest of the Lig will take Galatasaray’s titles to 25, thereby fetching them a fifth star on their club logo – with each representing five titles – and Osimhen admitted he wants to help them achieve the feat.
However, while making a strong pledge of unflinching performances for the team, Osimhen, who is on loan from SSC Napoli of Italy, put aside his personal milestone of the highest number of goals he has scored for any club in a single season, as he stressed that the bigger glory is for the club.
Incidentally, Osimhen’s brace in last weekend’s 4-1 win over Sivasspor took his haul of goals to 33 sizzlers in all competitions since he moved to Rams Park last summer, but he is yearning for more; even as he thanked his teammates, coach and fans for making it possible.
Rather than gloat over his individual strides, the former Ultimate Strikers of Lagos, VfL Wolfsburg of Germany, Sporting Charleroi of Belgium and Lille Metropole of France hitman celebrated what he called a collective performance in the win that took Gala just three steps away from being crowned Lig champions.
He beamed, “First of all, I’m really happy about this win. I say ‘thank you’ to our fans for their continuous support. Now it’s one leg closer to the fifth star. I’m really optimistic that we can get it with the support of our fans.”
He also hailed the impact that the coach, Okan Buruk, has had on the team and reasoned that the gaffer’s instructions have helped him in particular hit top form in only one season with the 2000 UEFA Cup winners and Turkey’s only ever treble trophy achievers.
The Nigerian national team’s second highest goals scorer in history added, “Of course, the coach has really been instrumental about this beautiful season. The whole squad is optimistic that we can really get the fifth star, and I’m really optimistic also.”
The Chile 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup gold medalist and highest goal scorer ended with a personal pledge to give his best in this weekend’s Lig clash away to Trabzonspor, who they will also play in the Cup final four days later.
“For me, I want to keep on going like this; keep on going strong, build on the momentum and win the next game. After the next game, we have the Cup final, and I want to give out everything to win every trophy available for us to win. I’m really optimistic that we can get the fifth star and the trophy,” declared Osimhen.
