At just 16 years old, Chizaram “Chizzy” Ezenwata is fast becoming a name to remember—not just in England, but possibly in Nigeria too.
The Nigerian-born striker capped a breathtaking 2024/2025 season by becoming Chelsea U18’s top goal scorer, racking up 30 goals and 10 assists across a range of elite competitions: the U18 Premier League, FA Youth Cup, Premier League Cup, and even matches with the England U17 national team.

Chizzy’s journey has been anything but typical. He began his youth career as a defender at Tottenham Hotspur, before a position change at Charlton Athletic unlocked his attacking instincts. In two standout years at Charlton, he amassed over 100 goals and 50 assists, catching the eyes of several Premier League academies. Chelsea won the race for his signature after a trial in August 2023.
Since joining Chelsea, Ezenwata has been a force of nature. Despite still being eligible for U16 football, he made his mark in the U18s with goals in high-pressure fixtures—including a clinical brace against Brighton and a late strike in a narrow 3–2 defeat to Arsenal.
He also starred in Chelsea’s 7–1 thrashing of Merstham in the FA Youth Cup, further cementing his reputation as a reliable finisher.
Chelsea U18 head coach Hassan Sulaiman was full of praise:
“Chizzy’s a natural in front of goal. His timing, composure, and mentality are rare for someone so young. He’s showing signs of greatness.”
Though currently representing England at U17 level, Ezenwata is eligible for Nigeria, Cameroon, and England. His father, Ndubuisi Ezenwata, a former Gombe United player, hasn’t hidden his feelings on where his son’s international future should lie:
“We would love to see Chizzy represent Nigeria. It’s home. He has the talent and pride to wear that jersey,” he told local media.
That dream might not be far off. Nigerian fans and scouts alike are watching closely, hopeful that Chizzy’s breakout season will translate into future appearances for the Golden Eaglets—and perhaps one day, the Super Eagles.
Already signed to a pre-scholarship deal for the 2025/2026 season at Chelsea, the sky appears to be the limit for this sharp, intelligent, and dynamic young forward.
Whether in blue or green, Chizzy Ezenwata is a star on the rise—and his journey is only just beginning.
