Esther Kolawole had earlier showcased her world-class form with a technical 10-0 victory over Senegal’s Safietou Goudialy in the preliminary round. She brought that same fire into the final, outclassing her opponent to stand atop the podium.
Ogunsanya’s triumph earlier in the day saw her overpower Morocco’s Zineb Chabki 10-0 in the semi-finals before cruising to gold in the final, making her a standout performer for Nigeria.
