CAF Hails Remo Stars’ Historic NPFL Triumph: A New Star Rises In Nigerian Football

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has joined in celebrating Remo Stars’ remarkable achievement after the club secured their first-ever Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title on Sunday.

In a thrilling moment at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, a late 84th-minute goal from Olamilekan Muhammed Adebayo sealed a 1-0 victory over Niger Tornadoes—crowning the Sky Blue Stars champions with a game to spare. The triumph lifts Remo Stars to an unassailable 68 points, ten clear of second-placed Rivers United.

CAF, through its official website cafonline.com, lauded the achievement as a significant milestone not only for the club but also for Nigerian football. “Remo Stars have shown great resilience, consistency, and determination throughout the season,” read part of the CAF statement. “Their rise from humble beginnings to national champions is an inspiring story for clubs across the continent.”

Founded in 2004 by Kunle Soname, Remo Stars’ journey from the lower tiers to the summit of Nigerian football has been nothing short of extraordinary. Their success also ends a decades-long drought for the Southwest region, becoming the first team from that zone to win the top-flight title since Julius Berger in 1991.

With the NPFL title secured, Remo Stars will now represent Nigeria on the continental stage in the next edition of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League. CAF extended its congratulations and looked forward to welcoming the new champions among Africa’s elite.

“A new star rises in Nigeria, and we celebrate with them,” CAF declared. “We look forward to seeing Remo Stars shine on the continental stage.”
