Coach of Pokwangli United, Geoffrey Binwal has exuded confidence that they are going to end their inability to win the Adamu Yola Gombe South Unity Cup tournament this year.
Pokwangli United will trade tackles with giant killers, Gwandum Academy in one of the quarter-final games on Thursday and coach Binwal believes that his team will end the productive participation of their last eight foes.
“Since the start of this competition, from the first to the sixth edition, we have been playing in every edition and we are grateful to God that we have given a good account of ourselves,” Binwal told the Adamu Yola Cup Media.
“It wasn’t because we were the best that year, but because God guided us through and luck was on our side. Now that we are in the 6th edition’s quarter-final, we are hoping that we will get to the final.”
Speaking on some of the things they will do differently this year, Coach Binwai was quick to express satisfaction with the level of preparation they have had this year.
“Whenever we register for this competition, our players always give their best and I am always satisfied with that. It is just a game of football. You may never know what it entails until after the game is played. We cannot always be winners, there will always be a different champion.
“We were just unlucky in the 4th and 5th edition as we were unable to go pass the group stages but in this edition, our players are ready and we have worked hard to ensure that we do not go home empty handed.”
He further thumbed up the organisers of the competition: “To be honest, there have been a lot of improvement with the organization of this competition. it is not as it used to be in the previous editions.
It has become more organised and this 6th edition is one of its kind because I have never experienced any competition with some of the things I am seeing here.
“We have first aid, match allowances and even jerseys for the last 8 teams. These are some of the things we don’t see in other competitions. So, I commend the organisers.”
