22 years after winning double titles, 1998 3SC set yet to receive their rewards …beg Oyo State Government

Members of the glorious set of Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan who won double titles in 1998, have appealed to the Governor of Oyo state, Engineer Seyi Makinde to fulfill the promise made to them after their excellent performance in 1998.

In a letter written to Governor Makinde by the Chairman of the team in 1998, Chief Bode Oyewole, a copy of which was made available to BCOS TV, it was recalled that the Pacesetter state Military Governor in 1998, Com-Pol. Amen Oyakhire promised to reward the team for winning the double titles.

The team won domestic league title and the West African Football Union (WAFU) Cup in 1998.

And in appreciation of this, Governor Oyakhire announced a reward of one million naira plus a plot of land for each of the players. Also, each of the team officials was promised a sum of two million naira and a plot of land while the Club Chairman was similarly promised three million naira and a plot of land.

The letter added that the promise of reward made by Oyakhire administration to the team has not been fulfilled.

Chief Oyewole revealed to BCOS TV that the team officials have made efforts to ensure that the team got its promised rewards, but their efforts were abortive.

“We didn’t fold our hands in the past twenty two years. We have written several letters to successive governors that ruled the state after Oyakhire but none of them granted our demands”, Chief Oyewole told BCOS TV.

The former 3SC Chairman then appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde to kindly give the former 3SC players and officials their rewards.

“We know Governor Makinde as a kind hearted person who will never allow any man to suffer unnecessarily. We are therefore begging him to give the ex 3SC players and officials their deserved rewards”, he added.

Chief Oyewole pointed out that it would be a great injustice if the men, who used the youthful vigour and talents to do the state proud in 1998, were not given their promised rewards.
