2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup: South Africa In Contention To Host Prestigious Event As Official Announcement Edges Closer

FIFA revealed on Wednesday that the much-anticipated announcement of the chosen host is set to take place during the 74th FIFA Congress.

Four bids representing the same number of confederations remain in the race to host the 2027 edition of FIFA’s women’s showpiece tournament:

The Royal Belgian Football Association, the Royal Netherlands Football Association, and the German Football Association (joint expression of interest)

The Brazilian Football Association

The South African Football Association

The U.S. Soccer Federation and the Mexican Football Association (joint expression of interest)

But the Rainbow Nation has an excellent chance to bring the Women’s World Cup to Africa for the first time ever.
South Africa formally submitted its bid back in May 2023, as required by FIFA regulations.

With the final bids deadline given by FIFA set to December 2023, followed by inspection visits in early 2024, the 2027 hosts will then be revealed during May’s 74th FIFA Congress next year.

Bringing the Women’s World Cup to Africa would provide an enormous boost to the development of women’s football across the continent.

South Africa is aiming to make history by becoming the first African nation to host this prestigious global tournament.

With world-class stadiums and infrastructure already in place from the 2010 men’s World Cup, South Africa presents a compelling case to finally host World Cup football.
