Speaking to Sports247, Amaechi highlighted technical execution as the biggest positive from the competition.

“Today, the positives for me were being able to execute all of the technical cues I’ve been working on. It’s been a long journey this season, but I’m happy I was able to start the competition, make corrections, and improve as it progressed,” she said.

Addressing competition fears, Amaechi admitted that having strong rivals only fuels her drive to perform better.

“I don’t dread any of my competitors. Even Chioma, who won today, makes me better. Having someone competitive in the field puts a fire in you and makes you want to throw further,” she explained.

Reflecting on her growth since her first appearance at the Yabatech trials in 2021 for the Tokyo Olympics, Obiageri Amaechi noted significant improvement in her confidence and performance.

“Back then, I was very new, the youngest of the group, and still learning. Now, I have more experience, more confidence, and I’m throwing further. It’s nice to see how far I’ve come,” she said.

Obiageri Amaechi also shared advice for aspiring throwers, emphasizing patience and perseverance.

“Sometimes you don’t see results right away—it may take months or years. My message is to keep going, believe in yourself, and be patient because the results will come.”

Meanwhile, Chioma Onyekwere-Lyons successfully defended her national title, securing her third crown with an impressive throw of 60.74m. This marks her first national championship victory in a World Championships year.

The trials continue in Lagos as Nigeria’s top athletes battle for qualification spots ahead of the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
