2025 AFCON: Who Is Tochukwu Nnadi? Rise of a New Super Eagles

From the quiet streets of Ihiagwa in Owerri West, Imo State, to the grand stage of the Africa Cup of Nations, the journey of Tochukwu “Obere” Nnadi is a story of belief, resilience, and unyielding ambition.

Born on 30 June 2003, Nnadi’s earliest football memories were shaped on dusty neighbourhood pitches, where dreams of representing Nigeria fuelled his passion.

His formative development began at Campos FC Owerri, and by 2019, it was clear his potential needed a bigger platform.

That year, he left Nigeria for Dubai to continue his training at Madenat Alamal Football Academy—an important step that sharpened his technical ability and deepened his football intelligence.

Nnadi’s progression quickly caught the attention of Europeam scouts. In August 2021, he signed a four-year contract with Bulgarian First League side Botev Plovdiv, officially beginning his professional career abroad.

He made his league debut on 3 April 2022 against Ludogorets, displaying composure and maturity well beyond his age.

By the end of his debut season, he had featured in 19 league games and 29 matches in all competitions—firmly establishing himself as one of the club’s outstanding young midfielders.

His growth continued in January 2024 when he secured a move to Belgian club Zulte Waregem, signalling another upward step in his European career.

On the international stage, Nnadi shone brightly at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup under coach Ladan Bosso.

He played every match for the Flying Eagles, contributing to memorable victories over Italy and hosts Argentina. His energy, tactical discipline, and composure in midfield earned widespread praise.

Now, in one of the most surprising yet exciting selections by Coach Sekou Chelle, Nnadi has earned a place in the Super Eagles squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

For the once-dreaming boy from Ihiagwa, it is a moment of destiny.

Tochukwu Nnadi’s story is still unfolding, but one thing is certain: Nigerians may well be looking at a midfield gem capable of inspiring the next generation of Super Eagles.
