2024 WAFCON: 24 Hours to Kick-Off, Super Falcons Captain Ajibade Fires Hotshot at CAF Over Accommodation

With just 24 hours to the kick-off of the 2024 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has voiced her displeasure over the quality of accommodation provided for players at the tournament.

In a strongly-worded Instagram story posted on Thursday, the 25-year-old midfielder shared a photo of her assigned room, which contained two single beds squeezed into a tight space. She described the room as “kitchen-size” and unbefitting for a premier continental championship.

“Two professional women players in this kitchen-size room in a prestigious (WAFCON). @caf_online @cafwomenfootball you can do better,” she wrote.

Ajibade’s public criticism has drawn attention to the tournament’s logistics just as the Nigerian team is preparing to launch their title campaign.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has dubbed their 2024 mission “Mission X,” aiming to reclaim the continental title for a record-extending 10th time.

The post has yet to draw an official response from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and there has been no follow-up from either Ajibade or the Super Falcons’ management as of press time.

Nigeria begins its WAFCON campaign on Sunday, July 6, against Tunisia at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca.

The Falcons will also face Botswana and Algeria in their remaining Group C fixtures. The tournament officially kicks off on Saturday.

The Super Falcons arrived in Casablanca on Thursday following a brief training camp in Morocco, which included a 3-1 victory over Ghana in a preparatory match.
