Not just the Ikenne-based club, Two-time African champions Enyimba will face Libya’s Ahli Benghazi in a tricky West-North affair in the opening round of the 2023/24 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.

This comes after Tuesday’s draw for the competition was held at the CAF headquarters in Cairo with the Aba-based side travelling away in the first leg on 18-20 August.

Remo Stars meanwhile are pitted against Ghanaian club Medeama as Enyimba will host the return fixture a week later as the winner of the tie will play Cameroon’s Coton Sport or Ivory Coast’s ASEC Mimosa in the second round.

Speaking about the club’s first experience in the CAF Champions League in an exclusive interview with Sports247.ng, the captain admitted that it’s indeed going to be tough but the team is ready to go on ahead.

“We know it’s a different ball game compared to playing the CAF Confederation Cup but nevertheless, I as a person have learned from the past in our participation last season, different approach and different fight, so no worries.”

Concerning people out there that will be looking forward to what will definitely happen this time around – “it’s normal, the expectations. We want to go far this time around. We are playing against a Ghanaian team who are also champions in their country. This is a champions league game, it’s not going to be easy but we are up to the task.”

“We are ready and as for the team, they know fully well that we have to take every game as they come, step by step, no complacency this time around because all lies on us and we will definitely go far, I’m so confident about that,” the captain assured.

Daniel Ogunmodede’s side will aim to overcome the Ghanaians for a shot at Guinea’s Horoya for a coveted group stage place in their maiden appearance.
