2021/2022 NWFL Premiership Super Six Title In Two Horse Race

The 2021/2022 Nigeria Women Football League Premiership Super Six sponsored by Tulcan Energy Resources, will end today, Sunday, May 22, 2022 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City with the battle for the league title becoming a two horse race between Five times champions, Bayelsa Queens of Yenagoa and two times champions, Nasarawa Amazons of Lafia.

In the battle, one of the final teams, Bayelsa Queens have an open advantage to reach the finish line before Nasarawa Amazons as they look sharper and brighter with a superior 12 maximum points from four matches, while Narasawa Amazons has 9 points from four matches after they suffered a setback against Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt in their third match, in what was Rivers Angels’ best game of the tournament. The Amazons fell flat 2-1 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, after an initially 1-0 lead.

In today’s last match of the Super Six, which also turned out to be the grand finale, Bayelsa Queens need just a draw of whatever form, score or scoreless, just avoid a loss to emerge a six-times champion. The Queen’s +7 Goal Difference makes it more Herculean for the Amazons. A win for the Queens will be an added advantage and a icing on the cake.

For Nasarawa Amazons to win the 2021/2022 NWFL Premiership League title for the third time, they will need to redouble their efforts by scoring as much as four goals to Level-Up on same points and goal difference with Bayelsa Queens, and go the extra mile to get the fifth goal to beat the well motivated Bayelsa Queens to the league title. These must be done in 90 minutes when the two teams file out for the final match at 4pm.

The champions will take home a cash prize of N5 Million, medals and giant trophy newly imported from the United Kingdom, second place N3 Million and medals and third place N2 Million and medals, courtesy of the sponsors, Tulcan Energy Resources. The company will also present, prizes for the league tournament’s highest goal scorer and the Most Valuable Player, which most probably will be Monday Gift, who has scored seven goals in the Super Six and three in the regular season totalling 10 goals going into this final game with a likelihood that she may score more goals.
Close challenges for the Highest Goal Scorer award are coming from Doorshima Tarnum from Nasarawa Amazons, with seven goals and Chiamaka Okwuchukwu, Rivers Angels with 8 goals.

The final match will be watched by top Executive board members of the Nigeria Football Federation, top functionaries of the Edo State Government and the Sports-loving Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu, and representatives of the Super Six sponsors, Tulcan Energy Resources and representatives of the sponsors for the NWFL Premiership regular season, Perculiar Energy Resources.
