20 Days to AFCON: Hugo Broos Unveil Final Squad for Morocco 2025

With just 20 days to the kickoff of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025, Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has become the first manager to officially announce his final squad for the continental showpiece.

Broos, who guided South Africa to an unexpected third-place finish at the 2023 AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire, has named a 25-man squad tasked with surpassing that impressive performance.

The Belgian tactician has once again opted for a blend of youthful flair and seasoned experience, maintaining the strong local core that has defined his team in recent years.

The squad features the return of tournament standout and AFCON 2023 Goalkeeper of the Tournament, Ronwen Williams, along with several players who have shone in CAF interclub competitions.

Up front, Burnley striker Lyle Foster headlines the attacking line, supported by rising stars Mohau Nkota and Relebohile Mofokeng.

Broos’ selection mirrors the identity that powered Bafana Bafana’s resurgence—solid home-based contributors who have gained valuable continental exposure through the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.

South Africa, champions in 1996, enter Morocco 2025 in strong form, having secured back-to-back AFCON qualifications and booked a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup—their first since hosting the tournament in 2010.

With the tournament scheduled for 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026, South Africa’s early squad announcement signals their readiness for what promises to be one of the most competitive AFCON editions in recent years.
