15-year-old Adedini haunts Nigeria after NFF snub as France edge Flamingos 1-0 in Morocco

Rachael Adedini, the 15-year-old forward born in France to Nigerian parents, came back to haunt her country of heritage as France defeated Nigeria’s Flamingos 1-0 on Wednesday night at the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.

Adedini, who was reportedly overlooked by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) before committing her international future to France last year, played with poise, strength, and confidence — tormenting Nigeria’s backline throughout the encounter.

The teenage prodigy, known for her physical presence and clever off-the-ball movement, was a constant threat to the Flamingos’ defense, using her size and tactical awareness to dominate duels and link up play in the final third.

Nigeria, who came into the game desperate for a result after a 4–1 defeat to Canada in their opener, struggled to contain the French attack, despite creating a few chances of their own.

The Flamingos’ best moment came when Chisom Nwachukwu’s curling free-kick was tipped over the bar by goalkeeper Chevray Lauryne, while Queen Joseph and Nwachukwu again came close early in the second half.

However, France found the breakthrough late in the game as Maissa Fathallah fired past Elizabeth Boniface in the 81st minute to seal the win — leaving Nigeria rooted to the bottom of Group D with zero points from two matches.

For Adedini, it was a night to remember — a performance that underlined her growing reputation in France’s youth system and reignited debate about Nigeria’s missed opportunity to secure her allegiance early.

As France march closer to the knockout rounds, Nigeria’s Flamingos must now beat Samoa Island in their final group game to stand any chance of survival.
