The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, Hon. Adeyinka Anthony Adeboye, described the walk as more than just a physical activity, but a national statement for peace and togetherness.
“The Walk for Peace is a reminder that regardless of our differences, we can move forward together as one people. Every step taken during this walk represents unity, hope, and our shared commitment to building a stronger Nigeria.”
Adeboye noted that the initiative is designed to bring people closer, encourage healthy living, and reinforce the message that sports can serve as a bridge across divides.
“This is not just about fitness—it is about connection. It is about Nigerians coming together, side by side, with a common purpose. When we walk together, we send a clear message that unity is possible.”
The Presidential Fitness and Unity Walk is expected to attract wide participation from youth groups, sports federations, government institutions, civil society organizations, and the general public, making it one of the most inclusive components of the celebration.
According to Adeboye, the walk reflects the broader vision of using sports as a tool for peacebuilding and national development.
“Peace is not just something we talk about; it is something we must actively promote. Through initiatives like this, we are using sports to create an environment where unity thrives and communities grow stronger.”
As preparations continue, Adeboye called on Nigerians to actively participate and be part of the movement.
“I encourage everyone to come out, be part of this walk, and be part of this message. Together, we can use sports to inspire peace, strengthen unity, and move our nation forward.”
With the countdown ticking, the upcoming “Walk for Peace” stands as a powerful symbol of what the 2026 International Day of Sport for Development and Peace represents—a nation united through movement, purpose, and shared hope.
