With just 11 days to go to the 2026 International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, preparations have entered a crucial phase as the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development intensifies activities around the Presidential Fitness and Unity Walk.

The walk, scheduled for Monday, April 6, 2026, will take participants from Unity Fountain to Eagles Square, Abuja, in a symbolic “Walk for Peace” aimed at promoting unity, healthy living, and national cohesion.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, Hon. Adeyinka Anthony Adeboye, described the initiative as a unifying platform that brings Nigerians together under a shared vision of peace and collective progress.

“The Walk for Peace is more than a fitness activity—it is a national statement. It reminds us that despite our differences, we can come together, move together, and build together as one people.”

Driving the coordination of the event is the Project Coordinator, Fashola Yussuff Olakunle, who also serves as Executive Assistant to the SSA, and has been actively mobilizing stakeholders and overseeing planning efforts to ensure a seamless and impactful outing.

Adeboye commended the dedication and leadership demonstrated in the planning process, noting that strong coordination remains key to the success of the initiative.

“I commend the commitment and hard work of the Project Coordinator, Fashola Yussuff Olakunle, and the entire team. Their efforts are a reflection of our shared determination to deliver an event that truly speaks to unity, peace, and national development.”

He further emphasized the importance of the walk as a tool for national engagement and grassroots connection.

“Sports have the power to connect people in ways that few other platforms can. When we walk together, we are not just exercising—we are strengthening bonds and reinforcing the idea that unity is possible.”

The Presidential Fitness and Unity Walk is expected to attract participants from across youth groups, sports federations, government institutions, civil society organisations, and the general public, making it one of the most inclusive highlights of the celebration.

Adeboye called on Nigerians to actively participate and be part of a movement that promotes peace and unity.

“I encourage all Nigerians to come out and be part of this walk. Let us show, through our collective participation, that we believe in peace, unity, and a stronger Nigeria.”

As the countdown continues, attention remains firmly on the upcoming walk—a symbolic journey of hope, unity, and shared national purpose.
