Scheduled to hold at the Apo IDP Camp, Abuja, the outreach will feature a vibrant mix of activities including a football competition among four teams, athletics games, and interactive sporting engagements designed to inspire hope and inclusion among displaced youths.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, Hon. Adeyinka Anthony Adeboye, described the outreach as the “heart” of the celebration, emphasizing its focus on impact and human connection.
“This aspect of the programme is very important to us because it takes sports directly to those who need it the most. It is about giving hope, creating joy, and reminding these young people that they are not forgotten.”
Adeboye noted that the football competition will not only encourage participation but also promote teamwork, discipline, and a sense of belonging among participants.
“Football has a unique way of bringing people together. With four teams competing, we are creating an environment of healthy competition, unity, and excitement within the camp.”
In addition to football, athletics activities will also be organized to ensure broader participation and to engage more youths across different interests and abilities.
“We are also introducing athletics games so that more young people can be involved. It is important that everyone feels included and has the opportunity to participate.”
The presidential aide stressed that the outreach reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to using sports as a tool for healing, inclusion, and empowerment, particularly in vulnerable communities.
“Sports must go beyond stadiums and major cities. It must reach every corner of our society, especially communities like IDP camps where it can serve as a source of strength, healing, and inspiration.”
He further called on Nigerians and stakeholders to support and participate in the initiative, noting that collective involvement is key to its success.
“As we count down, I encourage everyone to support this initiative. Together, we can use sports to uplift lives, restore hope, and build stronger communities.”
As the countdown continues, the focus on the IDP outreach highlights a deeper message behind the celebration, that sports is not just about competition, but about compassion, inclusion, and transforming lives where it matters most.
