“A year ago, the second 1xCup drew over 160 teams. At the time, we considered it a great result. We felt bad for every application that didn’t make it through. Now, imagine how we felt on June 22 — the final day of registration — when we realized we had received over 450 entries! On the one hand, it means we’ll have to turn down hundreds of teams.
On the other hand, it shows that Nigeria’s love for football is massive, and amateur football is on the rise. Regular guys from different communities across the country want a chance to show what they can do — and they already see that 1xCup helps raise the level of the game.
We thank every team for their interest in 1xCup 2025 and tell those who don’t make it: don’t be upset. The competition grows every year, and your moment of glory is still ahead,” said a representative of the 1xCup 2025 organizing committee.
The organizers still have work to do to pick the top 68 entries from over 450. After the draw, the teams will get to work. And it’s not just them — the fans will need to get involved too!

The play-in round starts on July 8, with 64 teams competing. The 16 winners from qualifying will join 4 clubs that get automatic spots for their results in the previous 1xCups.
